Mod: Cabover Cargo Net

DETAILS: Cabover Cargo Net

On long trips, I use my cabover bed area for storage. This cargo net stretches tightly and securely across the entire span, top to bottom, edge to edge. It comes with 16 black “J” hooks (and screws). To install, simply replace the existing screws (that hold the curtain rail in place) with the J hooks and new screws.

Installation
On the side walls, I removed the six “buttons” (3 on each side) and then removed the screws, replacing them with new screws/hooks. To fully secure the cargo net on the bottom edge, I drilled a total of 3 holes that didn’t exist prior: one in the center (between the two black ladder brackets) and one in the beige plastic on either side (see photos).

I bought 10 beige hooks separately (I used 8 and have 2 spares). The beige hooks blend in better on the side walls (3 on each wall) as well as the two near the bottom center (see photos). I used 12 of the 16 supplied black J hooks, but with the 8 beige, I used a total of 20 hooks. It would be ideal to order more J hooks in the color of your choosing in your original order (since the cargo net only comes with 16).

There is one important modification to the J hooks that is required to make them fit along the curtain rail. Take note of the close-up photo of the two J hooks (you may need to zoom in). The one closer to the camera has been modified — I shaved off an edge with a razor blade so it can lie tighter up against the curtain rail. It will be obvious what needs to change when you first try installing the J hooks on the rail.

Size Options
The cargo net is sold in two similar sizes: 20" x 72" and 20" x 84". I've tried both, and the larger of the two (linked below) is my preferred choice.
